چکیده

This study uses a unique integration of geospatial and hedonic property data to estimate the impact of sea-level rise on coastal real estate in North Carolina. North Carolina’s coastal plain is one of several large terrestrial systems around the world threatened by rising sealevels. High-resolution topographic LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) data are used to provide accurate inundation maps for all properties that will be at risk under six different sealevel rise scenarios. A simulation approach based on spatial hedonic models is used to provide consistent estimates of the property value losses. Results indicate that the northern part of the North Carolina coastline is comparatively more vulnerable to the effect of sea-level rise than the southern part. Low-lying and heavily developed areas in the northern coastline are especially at high risk from sea-level rise.

Landscape assessment of high-rise buildings: A method based on 3DGIS, BIM and AHP

In this paper, we propose a quantitative indicator for measuring and ranking real estate from the perspective of the surrounding landscape by integrating the building information model (BIM) and the three-dimensional geospatial information system (3DGIS) based on the AHP method. The landscape is one of the qualitative variables which it's measuring and quantifying is a complex task. In previous...

Coastal landscape and the hedonic price of accommodation

Article history: Received 7 February 2006 Received in revised form 1 August 2006 Accepted 2 August 2006 The impact of climate change on tourism has been examined in terms of changes in a destination's climate; the impact of ancillary effects such as sea-level rise has been neglected. In this study the role that coastal and other landscape features have on the attractiveness of tourist destinati...

Adapting to Rising Sea Level: A Florida Perspective

Global climate change and concomitant rising sea level will have a profound impact on Florida’s coastal and marine systems. Sea-level rise will increase erosion of beaches, cause saltwater intrusion into water supplies, inundate coastal marshes and other important habitats, and make coastal property more vulnerable to erosion and flooding. Yet most coastal areas are currently managed under the ...

Participatory Climate Adaptation in Coastal Florida: Increasing Roles for Water-Users and Independent Science

A primary attribute of coastal management in Florida is continued building in coastal flood zones, despite long-standing evidence of rising sea levels. Time is increasingly short to focus on more rigorous management policies that actualize long term adaptation to sea level rise. The real estate industry and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are among the primary economic and political drivers of...

Caspian Sea level fluctuation and Determination of Setback Line

In the past 25 years, rising of the Caspian Sea level, part of a natural treat to the sea, has inundated and destroyed many buildings and arable lands and threatened many inhabitations in coastal areas. The main reason for these damages is that the law-setback has lost its efficiency and human activities have proceeded seaward. The goal of this study is to introduce a proper setback line for th...
